About Will Smith
BACP-accredited counsellor & psychotherapist (he/him) • Founder of Queer Donors
Queer Donors is written and reviewed by Will Smith, a therapist with both a professional and a personal interest in the emotional lives of queer donors.
Who I am
I'm an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), working to its Ethical Framework, and an Advanced Accredited Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity therapist. My one-to-one therapy and clinical supervision practice is at therapyhub.eu, where I work online with clients internationally, much of it focused on LGBTQ+ experience, identity, grief, and the things that are hard to say out loud.
Alongside that practice, I research and write about queer donation: the experience of being an egg donor, sperm donor, or surrogate when you are queer. I started Queer Donors after noticing how completely this group is left out. Support and research overwhelmingly centre recipients and heterosexual infertility, while the donors themselves, and especially queer donors, are rarely given language for what the experience actually feels like.
Research & writing
I have proposed a therapeutic model for working with queer sperm donors, which has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication (in press) in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy. This site is part of the same body of work: translating that research into accessible, affirming support for donors themselves.

How this resource uses evidence
The guidance on this site is grounded in peer-reviewed research and the published positions of bodies such as the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), with sources listed on each page. Where the evidence is thin, or studies were carried out in heterosexual contexts and may not transfer neatly to queer donors, I try to say so plainly rather than overstate what is known. Pages are dated and reviewed, and updated when the research or the law changes. Nothing here is medical or legal advice; it is information written from an emotional and experiential perspective, and for anything specific to your situation you should speak to a clinician or a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
